BUG? Exits when designing new watch face

Hi.

When I’m in Studio working on a watch face, it suddenly goes back to the page where I can choose which draft I want to work on.

This without saving the work I have done with the one I was working on.

Then I have to start over again, just to see it happen again and again.

It also happened to me several times. Now I save every couple of minutes.

What is last action before it goes back?

I haven’t been able to see any patterns for when it happens. But as I’ve noticed, it usually happening within a minute or two from the time I open the draft for editing.

Without any warning, it leaves the draft and return to ‘Studio’ main page.

All I can do, is send you pictures of before and after. As you can see, it took approximately 3 minutes to do the thing, without saving the example I did to show you.

Thanks for the screenshots and detail — that’s really helpful.

What you’re describing looks like the Android WebView being recycled by the system while Studio is open. When that happens, the app reloads back to the Studio home screen, which is why it suddenly exits the draft without warning. Unfortunately if the WebView gets killed mid-edit, the editor doesn’t get a chance to save state first.

We’re already looking into improvements here, including better recovery when Android recreates the WebView, as well as further memory reductions in Studio itself.

A couple of things that would really help narrow this down:

  • What phone model and Android version are you using?

  • Roughly how complex is the draft? (lots of layers, imported images, custom fonts etc.)

  • Does it also happen with a completely new empty draft, or only existing/heavier projects?

  • Do you notice the phone getting warm or sluggish before it jumps back to Studio?

I don’t think it’s android related. I mainly work on desktop, the bug occurs randomly whenever I press the save button the blank template webpage loads. I go back to the “my designs” page and resume my work from there.

I don’t find any pattern it’s just happen randomly.

Why does the application crash? Where are the old designed fonts? I can’t save or replace them because they crash during design. Why did I have to update a usable application to make it unusable?

  1. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra (SM-S918B/DS)
  2. It’s running Android 16
  3. It doesn’t matter if it’s a simple or a complex production with many layers. It happens no matter, even if there’s no layer
  4. The phone doesn’t get any warmer than normal. I.e it doesn’t get warm at all, but yes, it often gets sluggish, if that is the same as laggy

do you have a solid internet connection - maybe it crashes when you lose connection?

The internet connection is very good and stable. It seems like the issue is not appearing that often now. I’ll let you know if it comes back :blush:

It’s been perfectly fine since yesterday. Have used it and stresstested it a lot, without no issues :+1::blush:
